Cut of a stunning brocade made of silky rayon, this dress dates from the late 40s to 1950s by my estimate. The light blue satin ground of the fabric is decorated with a bucolic Japanese scene of flowering trees, peasants, farmers and houses. It appears to have been carefully handmade, not commercially made. The dress features Asian design elements without turning to any Asian dress style...it is more a hybrid of Asian and Western fashion. There are decorative frogs down the fitted bodice front and gathers at the bust on each side of the center front panel. The dropped waist seam curves in scallops across the front. With long fitted sleeves, the cuffs have slits that snap closed. The dress is not lined; it has a long back metal zipper.
Size: bust = 35"; waist = 27.5"; hip = 43"; back of neck to waist = 15"; waist to hem = 28"; shoulder to shoulder = 16"
